With increasing global competition companies must continuously
hone their way of doing business to achieve cost-savings in their
processes. This paradigm of the 1990's was what we, as recent
graduates, saw re-entering the full-time workforce.
Sales responsibilities included finding innovative ways to
assist our customers' in their quest for cost-savings, which
provided us with the vehicle to add-value in our supply
relationships, and thus help us in to gain the crucial competitive
edge. In the spirit of teamwork, Superior Glove delivered an
effective sales process, while sharing our specialized product and
process knowledge and resources. The team depended on me to report
valuable customer and market information and ensure "loyal"
customer relations. Our customers' Cost-savings Team relied on me
to contribute in discussions and provide the resources of Superior
Glove to respond to addressing their needs.

The
article, which I crafted for Guillevin International (a
national distributor), demonstrates both the thinking and
perception used to achieve cost-savings successes and the
generation of national new product
publicity.

In this drive to realize cost-savings I found that although
many customers' employees and colleagues were passionate about
cost-savings, a blueprint to success was needed. The ISO 9002
principle of "Do what you say, say what you do and prove
it" supports the requirement for documentation. Especially
with the need to leave one project to attend to other matters,
documentation is vital in the ability to picking up the momentum
where last left off. To address this concern, I created the "Glove
Safety and Glove Economy" program. The first
objective is to present an overview of what it exactly is that we
wish to achieve (Personal Protection Equipment [PPE] specific). The
second
is to provide a blueprint for documenting the PPE specific tactics, or roadmap, to follow. It should be noted that this is
an example and employees can design their own method of tracking
progress.

The learning experience of New Product and New Process
Development was phenomenal. Whether it was observing the
production line processes, participating in Quality Circles,
working with our Quality and Product Engineers, it was very much a
realm of making it happen.
