It has been close to three-quarters of a year
since my last entry in this blogg. From the "website updates" page you
will note that I have indeed been active in developing friendlyville.com.
I do hope to present an entry as to my thoughts soon.

January 13th, 2007.
Here we are going into the fifth year of
starting a business dedicated to serving the child care industry. In my
travels I saw a quote by the honourable Nelson Mandella: "It takes a
village to raise a child" To be invited into this village environment is a
blessing in my life. My experiences of serving the Toronto, Ontario CANADA
vicinity leads me to profess to the world that we have indeed entrusted the
"future of our nation" with a "team" of devoted and talented child care
professionals. So often I get to meet talent and drive that the corporate
sector would pay handsomely for and yet because of their "devotion" they choose
to serve the children.
Why this introduction in my thoughts with you
this evening ...It is in my expressive opinion that we need an "ALL HANDS ON
DECK" ... we need to gather resources - everyone from every sector of our
economy - the future of our nation is depending on us. We currently have
the talent - and with access to more tools we can best serve the children and
take back the good of society that is drifting into oblivion: what
happened to the day of when a neighbour has a problem and everyone comes together to
help fix it - will the story of the pioneer days about a neighbours coming
together to help rebuild become a fairytale.
This stringent request demands some supporting
thoughts. The challenge in publishing information and expressing
oneself via this medium is that communications have become so rampant, yet not
to be deterred, we must use this vehicle as "a call to
arms" and therefore I must express myself with the truth as I see and have seen. I base my plea on the four years of serving the industry. I
recall the fist two years had some bumps and hic-ups. We had a Federal
Liberal Government in power - as is often the case bureaucracy can often take
time to implement. In my networking I knew of many other businesses that
were also holding strong for better times. My thanks to the Honourable
Jack Layton and the Federal NDP Party for standing up and lobbying for Child
Care: I recall seeing a surge in Child Care purchases at this time, yet
when the Federal Conservative Party won a minority government things seemed to
dry up in terms of funding - disbursements. It seemed like all of a sudden
there was a freeze and everyone was scrambling to play by new rules. I've
seen some of the activity and from the retail sector I saw a year that was
challenging but by no means a disaster - the economy did perform well by
international standards (resource-driven).
Never before have I gambled with my career
livelihood as I do in this venture. I have confidence that the Canadian
economic outlook for 2007 will be favourable (- we'll be able to scroll back and
see if I was right). I do know that the furniture budget of one of my
major key accounts has been frozen for the year and that there have been media
reports expressing financial shortfalls in our educational organizations .
Over the years I have seen restrictive practices and yet many of the
"catalogue-style" products do not lend themselves well to multi-year wear.
My confidence is threefold: governmental initiatives: Best Start and Early
Learning Centre Programs, are now kicking in - the provincial and federal
governments have "gotten their feet wet" and know that elections will be
coming...thus we'll see some favourable announcements: perhaps more
activities and funding of after-school activities - or why not after school/work
family events in the most troubled areas of town; that we have gone so long
without refurbishing our facilities and most of all I believe in the products
and services we are offering.
For four years Mark Mueller Agencies has
created awareness in this industry - with a special emphasis of let our actions
speak louder than our words - all this writing I can feel that 2007 will be
another philanthropic year for that I believe that there is not only a need not
being serviced but also, and perhaps most importantly, I believe in serving
those who serve the children I have found my calling. It is my hope that
the "leadership by example" efforts that MMA exerts will have a ripple effect on
the positive passions of our communities.
And in offering a quality product at a fair
price (in fact references are available to support that over the long-term our
furniture is not only most comfortable but also less expensive) we know we can
add value. One thing
I have found is that many companies are there to sell the products (large
portion offshore skins and low-grade materials) yet few are there to service
what they sold or help the Customer out.
It is important to express that there are many
amazing people who are helping out and giving where they can. And
companies that "shine love" - tremendous love: e.g.:
www.habitatforhumanity.com.
(why is it that the world has only one of these?)
yet as reported above we need more - we need everyone. I once heard that
we are all connected to everyone in the world by three or four or five
connections of "I know someone who knows someone who knows someone ....
Imagine when we call such troops to assist in serving our child care industry.
And while I may be passionate about this industry I encourage everyone to find
their volunteering passion: I do believe that the light we shine to one
sector radiates off into every direction and will therefore shower the children.
As long as we have youth violence in our communities each one of us needs to
reach into our own communities to the best of our ability. It's time to
get into the trenches and help others out with the focus of "give a man a fish,
feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, feed him for life". Only with
this hands on approach do I believe we will truly be able to see where our
system needs fixing, tweaking, etc. and because we will be there at this point
in time actions can be immediately undertaken to eliminate concerns.
Financial donations, as one can imagine, are
important anytime: the oil that makes the motor go. During my
employment with Superior Glove and Endurapak I got to witness the administrative
and front line operations of all sizes of companies: What I saw there was
that the corporate power provided the vehicle with the more invested
resulting in a better "engine" and then the synergy of people and their skills
causing movement towards the growth objective (adding value) Witnessing
our schools and child care facilities in action, my thoughts lead to how we need
to encourage others make our skills available to the child care facilities.
I see first-hand how skilled our educators and care-givers are in their roles
yet by bringing many skills to the table. I urge each and everyone of you
that are currently not employed or volunteering with a child care organization
(school, day care, children's centre, hospital, etc.) to go and introduce
yourself around town to see where your energy and skills would be embraced.
I am confident that where there is a will there is a way and that by employing
the I know someone who knows someone...we can strengthen our "village"
which is charged with the raising of our children.
With intense schedules often guiding our daily
lives we may find it challenging to volunteer time yet I assure you the reward
is bountiful (recent activity for me in my life). Nonetheless even by
sharing your awareness of issues that you believe in and in spreading the word
we can influence factors affecting our life for the positive.
In closing, I previously attempted a "personal
quote" to stir our nations into increasing their philanthropy yet I recently
heard the quote of Mother Teresa: "Give until it hurts" and in respect of
her wisdom and servitude my thought path now follows hers in these terms.
Best wishes for a most prosperous new year:
one of much health, wealth and many smiles and happy thoughts.
Cheers,
Mark

A quick reminder and encouragement to become
involved in helping to set our Accessibility Legislation in Ontario as per the
link on our homepage: I love this link - you can participate in a survey
complete with feedback forms that allow one to contribute one's suggestions (not
just a tick off the box campaign). What a great concept and I invite every
fellow Ontarian to check it out and, when applicable to themselves,
participate. Here is the link again:

December 13th, 2006.
Yet another
day of the month which has brought me good fortune: and what a gift
indeed. And that it be one occurring, and with great significance to my
life, in the month of December. The beauty of building a business is that
there are so many within your sales audience who have no need right now to
purchase furnishings and yet they are part of the social fabric of the company I
am striving to build. How wonderful it was that in one of these such calls
I should be invited to attend a child care's Christmas party as a "special
guest": it was truly amazing to witness this from a different perspective
and reminded me of my times with Santa . This adventure leads me to
believe that life is indeed the perception we give it and for a few magical
moments I was who I was.
And you know folks. we have to give till it
hurts and then give some more. It is so easy for us to give - if we don't
have so much the financial resources - which are so important - then we need to
give our love, our time, our thoughts, and our prayers if so inclined:
find the energy which you know best suits yourself - and as one euphemism goes
"Rock with it" Let your passion run wild with the pureness of good you can
think and dream of. While employed as a bellman at the Royal York Hotel
(see my performance portfolio) I learned that "four quarters make a dollar" and
that rather than shirking at a fifty-cent tip, much like the fact that each vote
counts imagine the good we can do amongst ourselves when we put it to the
synergy of our community. To maximize the goodness I believe we have to
find times when we cut out any thought of profit - true selfless service reaches
to create a passion to ensure that maximum gain is for the recipient: and
while I can't yet prove it in black and white (the numbers are
still in the red) the progress I am witnessing within my heart says this is the
only way. We have to believe in the wisdom of what we shine out comes back
to us many-fold. Today's example is testimony to this.
It sure is great to be the one who guides the
friendlyville vision: As I encourage your liberating ideas to guide the
dynamic flow so to do I get to express my own: How free are we to bend
reality to fit our perception: I am pleased to demonstrate:
I had such a wonderful time at today's
Christmas party and the dynamic action to "make things happen for the
children" is exactly what friendlyville.com wants to foster, encourage and
CELEBRATE - and because toddler's, preschooler's and JK & K children were
present, their energy and presentation of love, and that of their care-givers
wins their day care an entry into one of the essay draws - we still have two
days left yet I am confident - unless the emails and phone calls come pouring
in at the last moment - that they will be a winner - in fact they are so much
so a winner that I will herewith guarantee them one of the prizes - isn't this
what building a business is all about - RISK - and if there was ever RISK that
we would want to invest in - this is it. I feel justified in deciding
this because a true expression of Love one can not buy - yet one can give a
gift to reward and celebrate this initiative. and this event - combined
with the timing make it perfect to act upon
And now 'tis time to retire for tomorrow will
be a Thrilling of Thaumaturgic (working of miracles) Thursday and to partially
quote Shakespeare's Macbeth: "Let this (wonderful experience) be the
whetstone of your (passion to carry the vision forward). So very nice to
be in thought with you and share with you the essences of your child care
industry.

November 28th, 2006.
So much to report since my last entry.
As you will note from the website updates it isn't that I have been absent from
friendlyville.com yet more so that I have been developing content which I hope
serves you well, which is what this domain is all about.
The friendlyville.com vision of continually
developing an e-community which networks the resources of our society to our
child care industry is indeed bearing fruit. The new dynamic realm of the
internet allows us to expand the goodness that prevails within our communities.
The Wishing Well resulted in a wish come true.
The closing date of all the contests that had
a closing date of November 30th, 2006: the new date is December 15th -
which means the winners will have their prize in time for Christmas. I am
trying to make it very simple to sponsor a contest: no takers yet.
Also new is the "buy a bean bag chair for a school or other child care facility"
program. Lots of new links to explore.
Friendlyville.com is also pleased to welcome
Harmony Pet Resort. I met Linda while part-boarding a horse and she was of
tremendous help to me in caring for the animal. I got to witness her
healing skills when she worked on my horse. Truly amazing the skills she
has developed. She is great with human animals too.
I have been networking the domain and in my
travels have met many other merchants who did not discount the possibility of
participating in our site. - now my task will be to (in my part-time) help them
move in: I am awaiting feedback as to the big empty space under
construction on the homepage. As well we have several other professionals
considering posting their offerings in friendlyville.com.
I am happy to report that business is going
well. Despite a major account putting a freeze on furniture spending for
this academic year they do have adaptive equipment budgets for which our
products are very well suited. I see firsthand the fiscal restrictions
being imposed on the child care industry and for this reason my passion is
strong to help the community rebuild despite their lack of resources.
I have every confidence in our community and for this reason I am investing as
much as I can in the friendlyville.com concept.
Wishing you all many happy moments: call
me when you need me.

October 2nd, 2006.
Back safely from a visit to the
Sivananda yoga ashram in the Laurentian
Mountains of Quebec. Since my last entry I was honoured to be embraced as
a special guest of those who host this mountain retreat during the past two
weekends: first to measure and then to deliver their order. By great
fortune this timing coincided with the one month Teachers Training Course (TTC)
which finished this past weekend. Being welcomed into their established
clique during this intensive study during both weekends is indeed a smile for my
pocket. Thanks to everyone I enjoyed these times with.
And lucky me that they should have a talent
show on Saturday nights with an audience of about fifty. When I was
vacationing there this past summer I was invited to participate in the TTC
talent show yet my call to duty superseded this activity. I was going to
do my version of Ha Ha Yoga (which I learned about from my friends Jim & Jaya).
Well wouldn't you know it, my dear friends who are staff encouraged me to
perform the ha ha yoga.
With all the activities of going on in the
ashram their is not time to think about a talent show skit - meditation:
nope, raja yoga (exercises): no - it is a continuation of meditation that focuses
on breathing and for every forward bend their is a backward bend. When you
inhale visualize and reach to extend and elongate your body and in the equally
deep exhale let the body fall into the stretch, giving just a little bit more
with each exhalation. To maximize performance one must clear the mind of
any thoughts. Maybe at breakfast - nope too busy enjoying
conversation with new friends. The day continues with meeting more
friends, a lecture and more exercises and meditation followed immediately by the
show. Well I decided a last minute change was in order and successfully
performed my Dracula presentation. I told them that should fortune allow me to
me with them again the next weekend I would present the ha ha yoga then. I
am happy to report that this five minute skit was also well enjoyed so if anyone
needs entertainment "I am here to serve you". It was such a wonderful
experience and big hugs, smiles and happy thoughts for all of you.
Amazing the idyllic paradise selfless service
can help build. Even a stairway up the mountain. Two-thirds the way
up just a few steps off the steps is a circular meeting place carved out
of the forested and brush area: Wooden benches line the perimeter with
peace pole in the middle. Many revered individuals of many faiths planted
this pole in the name of world peace. Remember ring around the rosy:
with this enthusiasm I took a detour to skip around the pole and share thoughts
for world peace. I mention this as it did result in a beautiful inner
smile and sense of well-being.
In thanks for this great experience and for
trusting in me to deliver the goods I would like to encourage everyone to visit
the Sivananda Centre in Toronto. They are truly international and you can
visit their website (above) to find the centre closest to you. An
interesting fact I learned while I was at the ashram: The Sivananda
organization has successfully graduated close to twenty thousand yoga
instructors. Having been at several graduations I know first hand that
each yoga instructor is indeed of the finest calibre. While demanding, the
routine one develops will in fact multiply exponentially as one progresses
through the course.
Drum roll please ................... I
am happy to announce our first contributor to Friendlyville.com. (Names
will remain anonymous until the close of the editorial contribution contest.)
I will find a place for it yet for now will share the link here - very
appropriate for the friend theme:

September 21st, 2006.
It seems that this blog is becoming a monthly expression
versus the desired daily or weekly event. Nevertheless here I am once
again to report that the corporate vison continues and I am feeling the
evolution continue.
Today was indeed a thrilling thaumaturgic (working of
miracles) Thursday: out of the house by 7 a.m.; breakfast with my Mom; a field
trip with a school to WindReach Farms. We enjoyed a wheelchair-accessible
hay ride and picked apples. The farm is designed so that it is fully
accessible to everyone and even the apple trees are miniature. While I
deem it best not to mention students by name, the teenage girl who I got to hang
out with during the first portion of this trip is a most fabulous person.
I was able to apply the lesson that I had seen about reaching motor skills in my
regular volunteer classroom and we applied it to reaching - successfully -
several times in our apple picking activity. The animals in the petting
zoo were also great and seemed to be very gifted with the children.
A toast, yet again to our teachers. It is such a joy to
see them in action and they are most supportive in my learning. I get to
be like an apprentice and it is so great how they guide my life's adventure.
At lunch I got to assist a twelve year old boy with his lunch as the girl I had
been with required special attention. The teachers are so in tune with
each of the students individual needs and I was encouraged to focus on
encouraging eye contact and visual as well as audible communications. (I'm
sure the teachers could define this more accurately.) It was a beautiful
sunny afternoon so after lunch we went out on the porch. There was a group
of school-age (able bodied) children there with their teacher and they were
making a quilt. It was special to see the interaction as they included us
in their activity during our remaining time there.
Many thanks to staff of
WindReach Farm. As an additional side note it was great to see a
previous industry contact again.
And then upon returning to the school I had been invited to
participate in their weekly yoga after-school class for staff. A different
style of yoga than I am accustomed to yet also uplifting.
I am pleased to announce I have been invited to visit the
Sivananda ashram in the Laurentian Mountains north of Montreal, Quebec this
weekend to present a quotation for furnishing for this quality resort. I
am also looking forward to the four hours/day routine of yoga classes and
reuniting with great people.
Much work needs to be done to continue this web domain vision.
This weekend I will meditate of this site's further direction and I am confident
that next week you will see many of the changes I am currently developing.
Beaming you all bursts of happy energy, Mark

August 15th, 2006.
First off I would like to welcome to this world my new
great-niece: Imogen Edith Roffey: Born on August 11th, 2006.
May smiles and happy and happy thoughts shower your every moments.
Congratulations to Gayle and Nathan and their families.
Back to power-driving the economy. As you might have
noticed I have been working on this web site in preparation for the beginning of
the school year. While sales activities are generally slow at this time I
did have a wonderful interaction with The Safehaven Project for Community Living
(respite center): As well as attending to the business of having an
upholstered section of their Sensory (Snoezelen) Room repaired I had a most wonderful yoga
session with several of teen-age clients: I love to visit with the kids
when I am there and at the time they were relaxing in the bean bag chairs.
One girl was sitting on the couch and somehow we started on the breathing
principles of yoga - well one thing led to another and before we knew it we were
doing abdominal breathing, some smile and ha ha yoga. I have learned since
my return from the yoga ashram that the main thing is to adapt whichever
knowledge and tactics you can think of within your limitations and implement the
actions.
I also had a wonderful meeting at Curved Space today with a
teacher who will include our products in her Snoezelen Room. Again we see
the dedication of our teachers: preparing for September during their holiday
time.

August 4th, 2006.
It has been almost two months since I have
conducted my web-building activities. Managing the sales processes takes
priority. As our patterns of performance emulates the school year, I am happy to
report that had a good sprint to the finish in serving the Toronto District
School Board, among others, and with all my intuition, hedge that Curved Space
(and Mark Mueller Agencies) are well-positioned to launch the 2006 - 2007 school
marketing campaign. This month of preparation will allow me to define what
the managed program will be: item for item, and then to of course to post
this in our this website.
Can you tell in my writing skills that I have
just returned from ten days of an intensive yoga vacation in the mountains of
Quebec Canada. (My July 2006 yoga
vacation) I highly recommend the
Sivananda Organization: My friends and I have identified that after
this vacation you don't need another vacation upon your return. Total
recharge of one's life-force energy.
While nowhere near the four hours of yoga
exercises per day I was performing during my stay there I am managing to do 1 -
2 hours either on the pool patio here at home or at my Mom's condo on a nice
Persian carpet. My Mom and I have had a couple of innovative sessions
together. While I have not taken the one-month intensive Teacher's
Training Course I have attended many Sivananda classes and lectures since the
1980's and received instruction from Swami Vishnu and his chosen disciples.
It was neat to embrace all this history of learning and with both of our intuitions,
we designed a series of yogic stretches for my Mom (83) to participate in while I did
the more intensive ones. It will be my goal to visit their Toronto Centre
in downtown Toronto (Spandina & Harbord: just west on the south side) to
get in some of those refreshing two-hour sessions as well.
A reminder too that if you want us to promote
your product and or service or if there is a product or service you want us to
source we welcome your communications.
While web-development activities have been
dormant recently I have been studying web-design and hope to bring you a new and
revised site soon. So much to do: As previous visitors will notice I
di a large series of revisions: that file transfer protocol work sure is
tedious: uploading and then trying to figure out the glitches that occur
along the way (e.g. a few pages contain half-loaded image documents only ->
tried deleting them and uploading them again with no success: I will have
to (time permitting) redo each of the entire pages and rework the links. I
must say that having this medium to share my communications with you is well
worth this effort. If anyone should know what I am doing wrong or how to
correct this I welcome your feedback.
Wishing you smiles and happy thoughts for your
day.

June 8th, 2006.
Another thrilling thaumaturgic (working of
miracles) Thursday. This past week I had the pleasure to meet for the second
time a very wealthy honourable man who has built a successful manufacturing
company employing many people. His wisdom to me relevant in my quest of
building this company was that it takes FIVE years minimum to truly build a
business. Definitely a big smile for me to hear this - year three and a
half. I suppose for my style of striving to follow a narrow path I should
add another two years. It is a breath of fresh air with the challenges of
starting a business concern. Just thinking of the goal that at the start
of year five that MMA could hire it's first employee - after all this is what
can really pump our economy: jobs.
Speaking of which, I met an upstanding (first
impression) young woman yesterday who is seeking employment: Ideally in
the west end of Toronto (Jane St. to Dufferin St between Bloor St. W. and
Lawrence Ave. West). Although when we briefly spoke she had mentioned she
is seeking factory work at $8.00 to $10/hour, I, in my intuition believe she is
capable of performing in whatever opportunity she would be given. If you
are interested in exploring this opportunity I would be honoured to network you
with her.
This past Tuesday I had another opportunity to
spend time volunteering on a field trip to the Science Centre with a school. We got to see the IMAX movie "Bugs". Such a joy to hang out
with my friends.
I saw a typo in my previous page so I naturally
had to correct this and of course in the spirit of this blog had to add this
entry. This smile break in thought with you is over for now - on to the
next smile break of continuing in my administrative and sales and service
responsibilities. One of which is to prepare for a 10 ft. x 10 ft. space
of our furnishings to be used as the booth for a child care centres community
fair presentation to be hosted this Sunday. I do know I will have to
travel to our plant in Pickering to prepare for this and other chores either
today or tomorrow but for now I have the luxury of working from my home office
where the pool is almost ready and the lawn needs cutting.
I leave you this day with one of my favourite
phrases: Let's pump this economy!
A P.S. to our troops (42 nations) who have dealt a
major blow to those who threaten our freedom and democracy. Thank you for
putting your lives on the line to protect us and make all what we have possible.
P.S. #2: I have heard from very reliable sources
that Positeevo: the positive clown is getting ready announce his
"Top Secret Urban Infantry Freedom Fighter's Club": apparently the cost
and dues for membership isn't money and is based on the honour system: He
plans to charge you for clicks on his website but the thing is that you have to
pay yourself. How he plans to do it or what the charges will be my source
didn't know. They did however get a glimpse at some of Positeevo's notes
that looked like a list of some sort and did see the distinct words "ten plus one
leg lifts". I'll keep you all posted as to any news developments If
anyone has any photos of Positeevo in action I would be most grateful: it
seems that Positeevo is more focused on being himself in his striving to shine
love to others in a most positive way and always neglects the opportunity to build a
photo album. Guess we'll have to check
his website
next week). I'll keep you posted

June 1st, 2006.
A thrilling thaumaturgic Thursday indeed. I had a reason to go by
a particular school this
morning and was able to attend their Grand Opening of their Snoezelen (Sensory)
Room. When I arrived, the classes were celebrating outside in the sunshine
in readiness for their. event, and of course they greeted me (a field trip
volunteer) with enthusiasm. Another happy reunion and an opportunity not
only enhance the quality of my life but also to further my company vision of
becoming an integral part of the community I serve. I must say I feel very
special when I am welcomed to participate in their learning activities.
And our Toronto Police Department sent their representatives and
demonstrated yet again how "Our Cops Are Tops" by presenting a cheque generated
by their internal fundraising efforts.
Throughout the day similar joys of visiting these
environments were experienced When you step into these environments you
step into "pure love" environment - and the leading-edge and innovative/creative
development activities by the care-givers is most often evident. When all the
treasures and challenges of creating full-self-employment are placed before me
it is these interactions, that shine love so brightly and purely, that drives
the passion to build and the will to succeed in my company vision.
Such are the thoughts I share with you this day.

Business is going well. The phones are

The MMA corporate vision includes that we
participate in volunteer activities on behalf of ourselves and the companies we
represent. With this dedication I was able to enjoy in a wonderful field
trip to the Science Centre with the students, staff and parents of a school in Toronto, Ontario Canada. The high school students who
attend this special education "country club" as I affectionately view it often
have limited vision and verbal communication. Thus the viewing the IMAX
cinema's "Following the Nile" was well enjoyed by all with not only it's huge
screen but also the six massive speakers. After the movie we visited the
Human Body exhibit. We had a very happy day of inclusion and I have been
invited to return to spend more time with the class.

February 11, 2006.
(dates approximated - will be confirmed)
We have elected a new minority government and with this change
in leadership from Liberal to Conservative, my concern is that this will shift
away from continuing to implement the funding which has FINALLY been designated
for our children - the future of our nation. I must say this will really
"test the metal" of our child care industry representatives when they will
continue to endure through more lean times. I, as president of MMA see it,
this is where we have to be there for our child care providers and help them
through challenging times. In my daily travels I see that many centres
are still in limbo and all Best Start programs are frozen. Any funds
available must be reserved for tight operation cost.
Wishing everyone all the best for the year
2006.
